Paid Upgrades at the App Store

This morning I realized that Tweetie 2 was available. I opened the App Store on my iPhone and it wasn’t in the Updates section. It took me a sec, then I decided to search for it.

Sure enough, there it was.

It got me thinking: Why doesn’t the App Store have an option for developers to release “Paid updates”? Without that option it'll make it harder for app developers to promote their updates, since people can continue using the original application blissfully unaware of the update.

As an aside: Tweetie 2 is the best way to interact with Twitter on any platform.

Weekend Without a Phone

Friday night a friend challenged me to have no phone for the weekend. I took the dare and went without it for three days.

I'm definitely doing this more often. Being practically unavailable is very relaxing.

Some things I learned:

  • If someone can't get a hold of me they'll call my girlfriend to find out why.
  • Twitter is way less useful if you can't update by phone (I think they need to make a bigger deal of Tweeting via SMS when you sign up).
  • iPhones really are a lot more than just a phone. Not being able to snap a pic or check e-mail anywhere was weird. It's like a reflex now.
  • I definitely text more than I talk.
Will I do it again? Yeah, absolutely.
